S1 Episode 090 - Interview with Erin Everleigh - Author of BAILEX: volume 1
I got to tell you, this interview was not only fun but really inspiring. Erin is a woman after my own heart. Her love of reading and writing is inspiring! I can’t wait for you to meet her and hear about her latest book: BAILEX: volume 1!
Erin has been a dentist for almost 15 years. She started writing roughly 6 years ago because she had an idea in her head that wouldn’t go away. That story stayed buried in the notes section of her phone for many months before she finally took out her laptop and started writing. She is a dentist educated in the sciences and thought... “Who am I to think I could write a book??”
But the characters wouldn’t stop talking to her. She needed to get their story out. It was that imagination that helped push her past her insecurities. It was the craving to create that proved to her that you CAN do anything you desire. She still loves getting lost in the words and seeing where the characters take her.
About 4 years ago she made a promise to her daughters that she would write a book that they could read and enjoy (her first books were intended for the adult reader). What she thought would be a short story, quickly transformed into a 400-page tale of fantasy, adventure, and personal growth. She wanted her girls, as well as the other young minds she wrote this book for, to be part of the publishing process. She wanted to show them that you are always good enough to attain your dreams. All you have to do is dream big and work hard.
Getting a book out into the world requires so much more than just writing out your story, and Erin wants to bring our youth along for the ride. Hence, the WordSmithers program was born. She wants these young minds to use their critical reading and writing skills as her Beta Readers and Advanced Reviewers—the book is for them; their opinions are what matter. They see the drafting, editing, creativity, and artistry required to get to the finished product. And in the end, they will know what an integral part they played.
Erin's hope is to inspire youth to reach into their imagination, to create & to follow their passions...whatever they may be.
